About this workshop

Turn your industrial data into actionable insights As part of the L-DIH “Test Before Invest” initiative, this hands-on workshop empowers manufacturing professionals to make data-driven decisions grounded in a solid understanding of data acquisition and visualisation techniques.

Whether you aim to optimise operations, monitor machine behaviour, or build your own dashboards, this session will help you transform raw data into meaningful, operational knowledge.

Why join
Industrial environments generate large amounts of machine data—yet turning that data into something understandable, useful and actionable remains a challenge.
This workshop provides the practical know-how to bridge that gap.

You will dive into:
  • The main data sources in manufacturing
  • Widely used industrial protocols (MQTT, Modbus)
  • Common data formats (CSV, JSON, XML)
  • The fundamentals of building data pipelines
  • Creating visualisations and dashboards with low-code tools

By the end, you will be ready to conceptualise a data solution tailored to your own operations and confidently apply these techniques in your daily work.

What you will learn
Core Components
  •  Insightful impulse presentations on data acquisition and demonstrator hardware
  • Live demonstration of real-machine data pipeline setups
  • Practical guidance from an expert trainer
 Hands-On Exercises
  • Process various data formats and protocols (JSON, XML, MQTT) using Node-Red
  • Store and query time-series data with InfluxDB
  • Build a visualisation dashboard with Grafana
  • Run a mini hackathon to create a monitoring solution for real demonstrator hardware
 Additional Technical Sessions
  • Using Modbus/TCP in practice
  • Setting up automated alerts in Grafana
  • Working with low-code industrial tools: Node-Red, InfluxDB, Grafana

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for professionals working in or with industrial manufacturing environments who want to enhance their data capabilities.

Participants should ideally have:
  • A background in industrial manufacturing processes
  • Basic programming knowledge (e.g. JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with common data formats (JSON, XML, etc.)
Please note:
  • The workshop will be conducted in English
  • Participation is limited to 12 attendees
